Bouvier Rescue

What is rescue?
'Rescue'  or 'welfare' call it what you will. These are umbrella terms for the organisations which exist to rehome unwanted Bouviers des Flandres. We are also very willing to give advice with problems as this may prevent a Bouvier needing to be rehomed.

Where do Rescue Dogs Come From?
Dogs come to recue from many sources. Some come from individuals or families who have had a major change of circumstances and can no longer keep the dog. Some come from homes which cannot cope with some aspect of the dog's behaviour. Some are handed in to national welfare societies, who are happy to work with breed clubs in rehoming, and some are strays.

How is Rescue Funded?
Both the British Bouvier Association and the Bouvier des Flandres Club of GB have their own welfare funds. The Friends of the Rescue Bouvier is an independent body. They all share the common aim of helping Bouviers in distress and hold various events to hold money. They also rely on donations, sales of merchandise and rehoming fees when a dog is placed in a new home.

I'm interested in having a Rescue Bouvier, what should I do?
We are always happy to receive enquiries and offers of homes for rescue dogs, but as the aim is for dogs to be placed in a 'forever' homes, you may have to wait for the appropriate dog for you, and fulfil certain criteria.
There is a fee to be paid and you may have to agree to have the dog or bitch neutered but the Bouvier will have been vaccinated and will usually  have been checked by a vet, especially if it's medical history is unknown. Registration papers are never supplied. It is also a condition of placement that if you cannot keep the Bouvier for any reason it must be returned to rescue. You will also have to agree to any checks that Rescue may feel are necessary, either before the dog is placed or at any time in the future.
Once you take the Bouvier home, help and advice is freely available.

What do I do if I want help to rehome my Bouvier?
You should contact our welfare representative. We will need to know basic information about your Bouvier: age, sex, health and vaccination history and any details of problem behaviour, if any. Be honest, as full information will enable us to match the dog to a new home.
In an emergency the dog can be taken in very quickly. In some instances transport can also be arranged.
